  • Hi Sean, thanks for replying. His grades were far from stellar, mostly C's and D's and he did fail a broadcast journalism class that he made up in summer school so he does have his diploma. According to the recruiter the decision was from the Final Waiver Authority of the navy and there are no other options. I know he made it through the MEPS medical processing with no problems other than they said he'd need a waiver for the ADHD meds. Is there a point where high school no longer matters other than having your diploma? At 2 years out of school and scoring well on the test I was a little surprised that high school specifics were that important. If he were in his mid 20's and applying what would they look at? Unless we have other options his current plan is to attend a local police academy starting in January and then see if he can re-apply for military service after he has his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. He eventually wants to become a police officer and work his way onto a SWAT team and he felt that military experience would help with getting on with a metropolitan dept. Do you know if disqualification from one branch applies across the board to other branches? His first choice was Air Force but the Navy recruiter was a better salesman;) My daughter is at A school in Pcola right now and she spoke w/some of the Petty Officers there and they said that even though they were undermanned they were in a recruiting slow down for economic reasons so the Navy probably DQ'd him since they had plenty of recruits who didn't require a waiver. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.
  • We did that they sent him some magnets and told him to wait to finish his junior year or turn 17.
  • Sean, Paul told me you may be able to help. My oldest son had a baby this week. My wife and I have been helping him out. My son Nick has finished his third full week of training. He wrote he may be able to call. We may have missed the call. Was wondering if you know what type of number to look for on the caller ID. Is it a 312, 800, 888?. I saw nothing from Great Lakes, can you give me any insight on what to look for? Thank you Gary.
  • Does anyone know how soon and how often a DEP recruit can re-take the ASVAB prior to reporting? My son wants to get his scores up to qualify for another position.
  • thank you so much..I called Coty's recruiters office (spoke to someone other then Coty's recruiter) and he told me that Coty can submit paperwork to stay in GL a day or two after PIR since his base is essentially on stand down due to holiday. Will they ask them if they want to do it or will it be up to Coty to ask? I hope he calls or gets my letter before it is too late and he cant ask for the time. I just find it so hard to believe knowing that the recruits families are all traveling to see them on a holiday that they would not let them stay.
  • Thanks for the advice Sean. Are there plenty room for advancement with PS rate?

Can you give me some pieces about what will most likely boot camp will be? And the Education in the NAvy? Does my son will get the chance to finish his college and earn a degree while in the Navy?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  • oh yeah Sean it was not element leader.....in his letter yesterday he is Recruit Chief Petty Officer
  • Sean- we got the offical letter today, which allowed for Coty to put a sentence or two at the bottom. He said he was made an element commander what is that? Is that like a guide?
  • Thank you Sean-- I know that many of the parents here have little understanding of the tasks theri sons and daughters will be perfomring---heaven knows I did! Thanks for taking the time out of your schedule to help!
  • Your welcome Sean. I'm happy to give us dads a place of our own. The site is still young and I'm sure you will help many moms and dads on here.
