My son just selected for the E2/C2 from Pensacola.  He'd hoped for jets and had been top of his group with recommendations but unfortunately they didn't have any open slots the week he did…Continue

My son completed carrier quals 2/4/16.  He winged last Friday 2/26/16 in Meridian MS.  He is a United States Naval Aviator!

"I think you've lost your mind, LOL! You'll definitely have to share your experience here once it's over. I also apologize for seeing this group lacking activity and information. It's our fault we haven't spent more time in this area. But, our team will be more than glad to help change this with a little of your help.

Things such as, what does each new parent need to know when their child is becoming a Naval Pilot?"

Tough question.  The SNA's and SNFO's will be busy and under quite a bit of stress.  Be patient and supportive.  I pray for the safety of the training command.

"What is the timeline from boot camp, to schooling, and eventually Naval Pilot?"

For my son it will be  @ 10 years from day 1 at boot camp to wings (depending on platform selection: jets, helos, etc.).  He was enlisted for four years, went to undergraduate school for three years (via STA-21), now he will be in the Aviation pipeline for two to three years.

"What is this called you're doing?"

My son sent me the link to the you tube video.  I was not in the plane.  He was giving me an idea what his day at the office was going to be like.

My son's path to flight school was atypical.  The vast majority of students come from the Academy and NROTC programs.

"Does every pilots dad have this opportunity?"

No

"Any info you can provide so that we may better help the next Navy Dad that follows you would be much appreciated."

Enjoy the ride!  I pray my son is healthy and happy.

Have a blast! and hope to see some great pics of you and your sons experience. Go Navy!
