  • I was just playing Bob. I don't know what all these abreviations are yet but I'm learning. I might get you guys to help me start some kind of forum that explains alot of the Navy lingo since our kids will probably be using most of these terms. I have found some sites that explain them. I just need to group the terms together into one forum and you guys can add to the list. ttyl
  • Hey Admin, you are welcome. We got to have some "brotherly rivalry." I looked back and didn't see where I called you a bad name. Didn't mean to. We called the BM deck apes because they are the guys working outside and it has been true that deck apes are not necessarily the most "tecnical" of folks. It's one of those jobs that it's not necessary to be the sharpest tool in the shed. You know what I mean. It's like the Hull Tech. Their commonly refered to as "T" (Rhymes with word) chasers. It's a tradition I believe to cut down your shipmates, that is until the gong sounds and the "BOS'UN" calls Battlestations. Then all ratings turn-to and fight the battle together. I was a twidget working in the AC and was cut down by the GMs and BMs and such. My ratine was DS. You can imagine some of the things those initials could stand for.
  • P.S. ya'll quit picking on me in bootcamp. It sounds like bob called me a navy bad name. lol I'm learning this stuff ya'll just give me some time and I'll be able to know what ya'll are talking about. Deck Ape -I still do not know what that means but I know what a Grape is. And Bob I was born and raised in Jackson, Tn. And I think I'm the CO and my wife the OIC or atleast that's what she always tells me that she's the BOSS. Thanks for keeping me straight guys I will fall in line.
  • Chief I'm always on watch. Thanks for making me feel welcome in here. I want to learn everything their is about the Navy and all the jobs offered. I will hang around just to sit back and learn from you guys.
  • Hey EG, you can't be banned...you made this whole mess! So, as website OIC, you need to monitor your troops to ensure they keep up your highest standards (in other words, stop licking your wounds and be a part of this group, shipmate!)
  • Still new to this Kevin and Bob. My bad, I now see their is no aviation in front of that boatswain's mate title. My son is ABE and I am banning myself from this group but I'm glad to see everyone starting groups that will help others in same field. OK I'm leaving now. Just don't make me walk the plank. talk to you later guys and who knows I'll still come by to say hello.
  • EG, sorry to bust your bubble, but these are the real "deck apes", not the carrier type with wings who work on the "roof". Of course, I'm sure you're still welcome to visit and share a thought or two...

"if it moves, salute it; if it doesn't move then scrape and paint it!"
  • Bob my son is an ABE and will be headed for the roof on the USS Ronald Reagan in about a month.
  • This group is to honor the "Deck Apes."
