No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

It isn't on the navy's dime. They can purchase phone cards at the NEX where the pay phones are located.

Todd Leonard he will be able to make calls on the navy's dime but so far my daughter has made 2 calls I believe after she got there so phone cards will not be of use to your sailor

Thanks for adding me. I'm brand new to military life. My son shipped out Dec. 14. We got his belongings yesterday. Awaiting the form letter. I have two questions. Can/should we send him a phone card? If so, is there a particular type of phone card we should send? We don't have his address yet, but intend to send a card since it's the holiday season once we have the address. Can we send him a card?

The family of military community gives new meaning to support and each site has its own personality. All of them will be a part of your 8 week journey

Yeah Paul is right, we had 584 total in my sons PIR date and the fb page included around 80 or so. Long way off, but like sarge s meet and greet, I think there were 5 or 6 parents from my sons division. Was neat though, because one of the parents from another division came over to thank me for encouraging her when her daughter was having trouble passing her run. She was from the fb PIR group.

and on anohter comment...everyone wants to concentrate on RTC and PIR...there are several years of Navy life AFTER those 8 weeks.....don't ignore learning about those

no issues with posting ship/division info...just remember there are only 88 sets of parents in the entire US for that division....you may have more response for a group dealing with a PIR date than a specific divison

Stephen, the navy moms has a PIR page for each training group. I found it very useful to pass the time keep up with other parents in my sons training group as well as keep up with each week of their training.
