No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

How does this promotion to E2 in bootcamp thing work? When I was in, there were no promotions in BC. You left there the rank you had in your contract.

We got a letter today from Rose. Talk about ups and downs. She was really happy because she is doing really well in PT and inspections. She was really unhappy because she isn't very good at line handling and hasn't made it to E-2. She was glad that her division finally earned some flags but sad when she learned that her sister can't come to PIR because of a very important school function. She is very nervous about Battle Stations as she feels that they haven't been trained up enough to deal with it.

Thank God there's only two weeks to go!

We are down to two weeks from tomorrow. The excitement is building, for sure. I am looking forward to the "Sailor Call".

Finally got a letter today from my son, ending week three, he was very upbeat and stated the thought he was still in the Sea Cadets! He thought he was done playing the trombone but he is in 914 and still playing. Either his handwriting improved or he found a trunk monkey to write for him....Very Proud Dad here.

Yes, for those that aren't aware, if you click on the gray block beside the bowling pin...lol...down in the lower right corner of this window, it will open up the site Chat Window for you, where you can talk to the other people online.

Ya my Step son just shipped out on the 19th. It was a proud moment. Al tho he was 26, the first thing I noticed was one of my two extra shadows had disappeared. I Was sad about it at first but then I came home after taking my Four year old to school. And man SILENCE! It was nice.
The Hardest part is wondering how his first days are going.

Thanks Paul....I found the site a week or so ago and have been reading some every day since....it has been an invaluable resource for me and has answered so many questions! I was doing ok until an older gentleman stopped my son after overhearing our conversation about his joining the navy...the old guy had a tear in his eye as he thanked Ben for his willingness to serve. He said that he was a WWII vet ...we thanked him...but, I definitely had a tear...thanks for the site

Welcome to the journey proud dad!! There are a TON of posts in this group about the experience and what to expect...and the ups and downs...if you have not already, start reading through the older posts and you'll get a really good idea about what is coming down the pike. There are a bunch of really useful links right below the two videos above....everything from links to the trainee guide your son will be using to a week by week schedule to PIR dates and parking passes......explore!!!!
