No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Received a letter today dated 03, Jan. He is doing well. He was going to learn which language he will learn at DLI this past Tuesday; was doing Marlinspike today and starting Hell Week tomorrow. Hell Week is something I am not familiar with. Hopefully someone can enlighten me. As he put it, he is more than half-way "through this mess" and is looking forward to A School.

Norman,
Glad you heard from Nathan, that was a long stretch. I'm writing another letter to Chris and will tell him to look him up if he gets the chance. Even though he's from Mass, he spend almost 2yrs in the gulf on Katrina relief, and his fav place was Louisiana.
We got our second "real" letter from Chris today. He was that the downtime during the holidays was really bad...nothing to do, so the "I miss"es set in ;) This week is their "Hell Week", so we'll see how they do. He's really looking forward to getting OUT of boot, which is pretty normal.
He also said he's tired of getting yelled at cuz he's going bald, which is a hereditary condition. My next letter I'm going to tell him to just shave his head, then no one will know ;)

Greg,
Congrats!!! I hope that Anitoli has a great time with Battlesations. Nathan is a couple of weeks behind. Terry thanks for the advice about not sleeping, I will pass it on. If anyone else has advice on Battlestations, please let me know.

Greg, that's great to hear about Anitoli. For battlestations, the key is to simply don't fall asleep and follow orders. My son did it last Dec and he enjoyed it immensely. He ended up being the nozzle man and putting out the fire. He went in as an E-3 and will soon be an E-4. Good luck to Anitoli!

Great News everyone!!!
Anitoli sent us a letter today, Ship 13 Div 056 Battle station is Sunday night the 10th through 11th AM. Should get the call Monday that he is a real Sailor!!!!
Also he got promoted to E-2 and earned a Sharp Shooter Ribbon. Everything is easy and he is having a great time. Gas chamber training was a great adventure for all but they made it through with less in there gut than they went in with. Final Personel inspection was going to be today and he was really ready for it.
See you all in GL

Bruce~ If you can text her or she calls you (she will call you tonight around 1130 pm if only for 30 seconds to say she is there), you hold your head high, be strong for her and tell her that we are all great full and thank full for her service. You can ask us anything here. I've found these guys here will be honest and get your head right while being compassionate too.
Now you too are a proud Navy Dad!

Zach'sdad,
You are correct no news is good news. It was about 2 weeks before we got our first letter from Nathan. He left 11/24 and has a PIR of 1/29. Last weekend was the first time we got a call from him. If you haven't heard anything that means things are going according to plan. Phone calls are a hit and miss thing as it is used as a reward for good performance. Nathan was SIQ for Christmas, so we did not get a call then. Just keep sending letters everyday that you can. They get mail regularly, but they can only write during down time and at first there is not a lot of that. It goes by faster than you think. Seems like we just put him on the plane and now we are only about 3 weeks away from Battle Stations. Hang in there dad you will be heading up to GL before you know it.
