No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

I'd echo what NavyDads Admin said. Even if I had had only 5 seconds to spent with him, I'd do it all again. It was truly the most amazing experience I ever had since he was born.

I want to remind all about the the famous phrase "needs of the Navy"....it is important that you remain flexible when you are at Great Lakes. Generally your sailor will know if they are grad-n-go before PIR, but there are and have been exceptions. Regardless if you get 2 hours or 48 hours with your sailor, it will be a memorable and worthwhile trip!!

When I got my packet, there was also no mention of Grad and Go. Luckily I just got a letter where my son stated he was leaving for SC on June 30th. His PIR is June 26 so I get to spend a long weekend with him. Hope you all have the same good fortune.

hey, I got my packet for 7/17.(div 246) on the black and white pamphlet it said Division depart RTC on Sunday.

To Kirk, when they tell you you're getting a graduation packet, it is kind of misleading. They are customized for your sailor's division, however, even though they look photocopied. On the inside of mine, one of the trifolds had all the grad-and-go information and it stated the division would depart RTC on Friday, 6/5. If it doesn't have that, it doesn't mean that she's not grad and go, though. She will have more information closer to PIR and I am sure she will write you and let you know. My son got until 7 p.m. the day of PIR, some of the division got the whole weekend. It seems the ones staying in GL got the whole weekend.

I have been lurking here ever since my oldest (turned 21 on Sunday) went DEP 3 months ago. He starts today and his mom and I am pretty excited for him. We can hardly wait to go to PIR, guessing some time around the middle of August. The site has been a wealth of information for all of us! Our youngest (18 in August) is DEP now and reports in March. Middle one (19 a month ago) is seriously looking at going soon. Sure is getting quiet at home!

To anyone who has received a graduation packet.- What was in your packet? All I received was photocopied tri-fold brochure that had my daughters name and her guests for PIR handwritten on it. The rest of the info was all just stuff that's on the website. No personal info on Holly as far as Grad&Go. Maybe I was just expecting too much but this seems almost pointless.
