Oscar, I can't stress enough that while your sailor is at GLRTC, write her letters as much as humanly possible.  It is their life line to the outside world.  It doesn’t matter what you write. Just say hi, tell them what you did at work, or even ate for lunch that day, what happned on their favorite TV show, it doesn’t matter, just WRITE.   You can send some pictures but be careful/discreet.  The RDC's will look at their mail to be sure there is no "contraband."   DO NOT send food, snacks, oversized cards or the ones that play music etc. It will work against them.  We cut and pasted photos into the letters, which seemed to be permissible.   The photos were just of the pets, a new car etc. Our kitchen was being remodeled at the time so we sent pics of the process too.   We found it VERY helpful here on NAVY DADS.  It’s a great group of people with something very special in common… OUR SAILORS!  The RTC website http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/  is also very informative

Yes your CTR's will go to Corry. to tag ion to my previous post and Jim A's comment below, Be prepared to not hear much about what they are learning as it is highly classified.   If they haven’t completed their security background clearances, they will soon during “holding.”  Holding is a waiting periods until they "class-up" (start classes) for A and then again for C School.   They will still need to muster and be subject to periodic inspections.  They will have other duties/jobs as well.   They regain access to their cell phones and internet.   Make sure you go to visit them!  P'cola Beach is lots of fun.  The NAS Museum is a MUST see.  Their privileges increase as time goes on and they demonstrate responsibility. If you go in the summer it is HOT and HUMID!

HooYah!! good day all,

my daughter will join Grate Lakes on 8/30 and after her eight weeks she will be at P-Cola. I am joining this group to see how things are at CTR training.

Best wishes all.

my son will be going to P-cola for CTR training after he graduates on September 1st. (Cory Station I believe is where he will be going.)

He will love Corry Station.  He should be able to have visitors within a few weeks of arrival.  We took our son's car to him about a month after he arrived.  I don't know much about CTT's but I believe sonme or all of them spend some time at the NAS in P-cola before moving to Corry Station.  My son is a CTN.  If I recall from what I have read, the CTT A-school is self-paced and quite a bit different than the CTR and CTN A-schools.

Corry is nothing like boot. Thye get their phones back, internet access, etc. It's a different world.  They have go through phases and earn leave off base though, that doesn't take long.  As our sailor says.."It's easy as long as you pay attention and do what you are told."   LOL

Thank you gentlemen. I'm completely up to speed on RTC and PIR thanks. I have been scouring the internet and reading every Navy website and have liked every Navy facebook page known to man since my son signed up in July. lol I will be hitting you up once he hits Corry Station though. At what phase (weeks)are they allowed any liberty off base? When are people allowed to visit?

James, Welcome.

Most of our sailors are out in the fleet so we cant share a whole lot as we dont know it! We do learn aot form our shipc's CMC and CDR via the ships Ombsudman facebook page.

Our sailor was at Corry for A and C school so he was there from April of last year through December when he was assigned to his ship.  They deployed in January so it was good to get to see him a few times especially around the Holidays.

We went to PCola a few times to visit, do go and check out the Museum at NAS. There is a lot to do there. We will all be here when your sailor gets out of Basic. Right now focus on him there and getting to PIR. That is quite an expereince It si something we will remeber for the rest of our lives.  Teh Boot camp and PIR gorups wil help you with questions about the day getting there and where to stay, what to do etc... meanwhile, write him letters, letters, letters!
