forgive me for getting in here to answer.....I've been on a carrier as it came into Norfolk (Tiger Cruise, '09, Theodore Roosevelt).  The greography of hte mouth of the bay doesn't allow much viewing....let's see if I can find a photo to show....

you can see there is very little land between the Atlantic and berthing.....

Hi Pete.  I'm like the other dad...I check the site periodically but I don't post very often.  I should...just don't take the time.

Congrats to your daughter (and you) on her accomplishment.  My daughter's PIR was almost 2 years ago to the day (10-16-2009) from your daughter.  She did a "grad & go" and was in Pensacola that same evening.  She's now an AE3 with VAW 126 in Norfolk and loves it.  She's already been on one cruise to the gulf aboard the USS Harry S Truman and had a great experience.  I'm in the southeast corner of KY (Middlesboro) and she enlisted in London and processed through Knoxville, TN.  Wow, just seems like a few days ago and that's been well over 2 years.  Congrats again and please thank her for her service!

My son enlisted in Florence also Pete. PIR in April. Went to Groton for sub school and is currently on patrol on the USS Kentucky SSBN 737.

Pete:

I follow the site but do not post much.  Tell your daughter good luck.

I did the same for my son when he enlisted almost 18 years ago.

It has been a great choice for him.  He is now a Senior Chief stationed in Pensacola at Corry Station.

Does anyone post here any more? My daughter just graduated boot camp on 10/21 and is in Corpsman A school in San Antonio. Enlisted at the recruiting station in Florence. Sworn in and departed from Louisville.

Mark:

Thanks for the info.  Steve did live in Latonia.  I went to school with him up on the hill, before it was NKU. I grew up on Highland ave. in Covington.

Steve, I think Steve Megerle is like a second cousin....not real sure since I have never met him. I'm over in Campbell County now although I grew up in Covington and Latonia and graduated from Holmes High School. I know Steve used to live in Latonia many years ago.

Mark:

I also live in Northern KY.  Are you related to Steve Megerle?

Hi everyone,
I am in Northern KY and my son is in ins eighteenth year working in Aviation Ordnance. He's now a Chief and teaches new recruits when in port. He's worked on the flight deck of the Roosevelt, Kitty Hawk, and now the Eisenhower. hopefully I can be a helpful contributor to this group in the future. Thanks!
