• The 1LT Nick Vogt 5k
‎1LT Nick Vogt's home town did a commemorative 5k run to honor his courage, sacrifice, and inspiring recovery on the 5th of May. Due to redeployment, Nick's platoon, company, and battalion weren't able to make the journey to Ohio to participate--so instead they formed their own 5k at Fort Wainwright to honor the courage of this genuine American hero. Over 100 people participated in the Fort Wainwright Nick Vogt 5k run! Special recognition should go to 1LT Miles Dunning of B Co. for organizing this event and making sure it turned out with such great success!

Sheila Vogt
Wow!!!!! We don't know what else to say, but "WOW"!!!!!! Thank goodness for Skype, and I swear we could feel the excitement and support all the way down here in Richmond. What a truly amazing display of support, love, and appreciation for another human being. Nick kept saying, "I am sooooo glad that so many people are involved in this because it's a way for them to better themselves as well." He got into his wheelchair earlier before the race started and I could tell that he was starting to get a little uncomfortable maybe half way through the race. I said, "Nick, do you need to get back into bed. How's your pain level?" He said, "Mom, if these people are walking/running/pushing baby carriages for 5K, I can certainly sit in my wheelchair until they're done." And he did. See, all of you inspired him today!

news paper article:

Crestline mayor proclaims Nicholas Vogt Day

Crestline Mayor Dave Sharrock proclaimed May 5, 2nd Lieutenant Nicholas Vogt Day at the Crestline Village Council meeting Monday evening.

The proclamation, read by Clerk of Council Annette Johnston, praised Vogt for his perseverance to rise above any challenge, his honor, faith, and integrity, in addition to his story of heroic and selfless service. Vogt is a U.S. Army 2nd Lieutenant, Army Ranger, and West Point and Crestline graduate who heroically pushed one of his soldiers out of the way of an explosive device absorbing the brunt of the blast and was critically injured.

Sharrock called upon public officials, and all people of Crestline to observe this day and to recognize the impact 2nd Lieutenant Nicholas Vogt has had on the community and to express their continued support of Vogt and his family.

A special fundraiser for Vogt and his family is being held the first week of May.

we now have over 1200 participates (that is twelve Hundred!) signed up for 5k in crestline!

John 14:1  "Do not let your hearts be troubled"

When we persevere with the help of a gentle discipline, we slowly come to hear the still, small voice and to feel the delicate breeze, and so to come to know the presence of Love.

A friend of mine's cousin was injured in a parachute training exercise in fort bragg yesterday....his chute became entangled with another chute and his backup chute did not deploy...he suffered a broken back, broken pelvis, broken ankles, and several other bones.  Please pray for him and his family!!

Update from Nicks Dad, Steve: Mom's in Richmond with Nick and I am at home with the rest of the family. It was a great two weeks with Nick. He is doing such a great job. The med staff and Nick are definitely on the same page - prepare for trip to Alaska. Nick, Sheila and I fly out of DC on the 14th, re-deployment ceremony on 16th, memorial for the beloved KIA's on the 17th, then fly back on the 18th. It is going to be a difficult trip for Nick physically, but emotionally it will be wonderful to be back with "his guys". Getting ready for the 5K on Saturday. I am not going to run. (not a good time to get hurt.) I'm going to do a hand shake and hug marathon to try to say an appropriate "thank you". (Steve)

Welcome Home! Thank You For Your Service
