Please pray for the Sailors aboard the USS Enterprise and the destroyers who accompany her.  She has left for her final deployment.

My what a handsome young man!!!  And those eyes!!!  Nick, you don't know any of us, but we are your Navy family.  We have followed your recovery and kept you in our prayers.  Glad to see your smile.  God Bless.

Here is the young man we've all been praying for, Nick Vogt.

And the answers to our prayers keep coming.....

O.k. It's Sheila, and I'm doing the post tonight. Thanks to my hubby who filled in last night. Today was a first for Nick. For the first time in nearly four months, he ate breakfast (and the feeding tube was out) which was a definite bonus. The other first was when the Doctor came in and said, "Nick, we plan on sending you to the fourth floor tomorrow. . . you're getting out of the ICU.". We're definitely nervous, but extremely happy. The only problem is, it's going to be odd saying good bye to so many wonderful doctors and nurses. We've gotten to know many of them very well, and we are indebted to them for the amazing medical care they've given to Nick. Thank you, everyone, in ICU. God bless you all.

Any human who feels that he or she is not "good enough" to cultivate peace and generosity is overlooking the wondrous gift of life. You live, therefore you are good enough.

From Steve Vogt -

Filling in for Sheila on this post. She is pooped. It was one of those days for she and Nick. Nick is still off the vent. It has been 2 1/2 days of breathing on his own. This is a big deal. Today he had a swallow test to determine if, and what, foods he can begin to eat. The test consists of eating and drinking various things while the med staff watches an x-ray of his throat to make sure things in there are working right. Nick's test generally went well. He has been approved to eat and drink thickened fluids and soft food. However he can not drink liquids yet. This has him (and us) bummed out. It is his biggest desire to drink a glass of water. Another test will be done next week. More prayers for the intercession of St Blaise. (Steve)

Today was another good day for Nick. He's been on trache collar (which is pretty much breathing on his own) for about 36 hours. We are all so pumped! He was in the wheelchair for over an hour today, but today his wheelchair was manual. He was able to roll himself down several long hallways to one of the rehab rooms (all while being on trache collar). This is great progress, and he received so many words of encouragement from all the medical staff who saw him. I am wondering, however, if he will have rather sore muscles tomorrow. He used muscles today that he has literally not used in nearly four months.
