I don't just "like" this "I LOVE it!"  indeed alot more smiles now. I still can't help crying just alittle. (tears of Joy and Happiness)  If anyone needs a Hero, Nick is my FIRST thought. as far as Role Models are concerned, Nick and Family is top of the line!  Very sad news about Stacey but we KNOW she is with our Lord and Savior and this family WILL survive and thrive.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Kenny Vogt and all of the family and friends of his beautiful wife, Stacey Vogt. We learned today that Stacey lost her battle with cancer, but there are no doubts that she won the ultimate goal that we all strive for . . . the gift of eternal life.

If this doesn't put a huge grin on your face, I don't know if anything could...today's update on Nick:

My little sister, brother, and I saw Nick for the first time since Christmas. HOLY *cough*, WE NEEDED THAT.

~Friday: Obama visited Nick…. Yea… THAT WAS UNEXPECTED. X)

**His Condition: Nick looks amazing compared to how he did last time we saw him! His face is much fuller, his eyes considerably brighter, and has quite a dapper mustache going for him! He still cannot eat or drink, but he is working hard toward the immaculate swallow test! Also, his trache prevents him for being able to speak, but THATS OKAY; because my translating skillz are becoming quite professional;) He is currently working on strengthening his lungs; breathing large portions of the day on his own, then back on the vent at night. Also, the doctors and Nick are working on popping open the bottom on his left lung. His right is fine, but the left lung decided to be a hackin' JERK and be all,” Yeaa, that’s alrigh’, imma just stay partially collapsed for a while, doc. Sucks to be you, right lung.” So hopefully that stupid thing will pop open soon!:) His memory is still pretty bad, but is definitely improving as well:)

**His Behavior: As soon as I walked in the room, Nick gave me a big, huge grin and mouthed, “High Four!” which automatically made me so happy I wanted to cry! At Christmas, he was so drugged up on pain-meds, he was REALLY out of it. REALLY. But this weekend he was a lot clearer and very, very excited to see us, “savages.” We took a wheel chair ride outside and there we all sat in the sunlight for 45 minutes, talking (or mouthing) like a normal family. That moment was so incredible…. for us to be with him, just TALKING. Nick and I made a Star Wars joke, which no one else got; but we found absolutely hilarious! That was my favorite moment of my weekend, Nick looking up at me, noiselessly laughing and high four’ing me for our stellar “nerd humor”. I will never forget that moment. ♥

~Thank you all for your amazing support, every little smile helps more than you can imagine. ♥ :) ~Loretta

From Nicks family - (Charlie) Beings Mom and Dad are too lazy to put a post on tonight, I will instead. Today was a pretty nice day for my brother, Nick, other than late morning wasn't too good as he complained about a very sore throat. It seemed like it improved a little as the day went on. He enjoyed several popsicles today along with a nice 45 minute joyride around the hospitol in his motorized wheelchair. We tried going outside, but even Nick thought it was too cold. Being able to see Nick is just like it always used to be . . . we never wanted him to leave and now we don't want to leave him. Wherever Gods steers his journey I know we'll be happy, because he's still got a journey to be steered. Thank you, God!

Oh Jim, sorry for the misunderstanding. That post was from Nicks' parents. I just pasted and copied. Here's todays update.......

Tonight's post is brought to you by Nick's sisters and brother who are visiting him this weekend: (Charlie) The best sight for me has once again been changed. It is now the sight of walking into Nicks room and getting an instant smile from him and hearing him say, "high four", (beings he lost his left pinky finger in the accident), really makes me realize how much he makes a very negative thing, into a very positive thing. He has always been one of my favorite role models and know he always will! " (Loretta) Going from Christmas until now was a very difficult thing for us three. It was very hard for us to simply IMAGINE what kind of progress he had been making, given the state we last saw him. There is such a hugely, gynormously, massive improvement in his physical condition! His face is filling out again and his mustache looks quite dapper!:) Throughout the day, he has been smiling and joking around; the same old humor we have always known. He has indeed been giving "high fours" all around as well:) I love it here!:) ♥ (Lizzy) I'm having such a great time here! The best thing about this visit is knowing that Nick still has a good sense of humor :)

O.k., for all those inquiring minds who just have to know . . . The visit was a complete surprise. I found out just a couple hours ahead of time so we had time to give Nick a fresh shave, new hospital gown, and nice white teeth (I didn't want him to have orange Popsicle stain on his teeth when meeting the President). He was visiting other wounded warriors here at Walter Reed and Room 314 was on the schedule. He was in Nicks room long enough for a handshake, a hug for mom, some small talk about Ohio and West Point and then a Kodak moment with the three of us. It was a very special visit and even with Nicks poor memory, I think he'll remember it.

Now this will knock your socks off......just in from Steve and Sheila....

O.K., today was definitely not a "typical day" for Nick. He had a
visitor . . . it was the President of the United States.
