I agree, I cry each time I read something about him.  each time the thought why nick? sneaks into my thoughts, I hear his dad, why not? and then I think of all the people in the world, Nick.  Yes, Nick can and will pull through this and we all will be stronger. God is good.  God has a plan. we just need to let go and Let God.

fishdad, I just wanted you to know, this is what you did for us also, when Heath was going through so much,  the way you 2 handled it was Awesome, we have all grown because of this site and reaching out to others, may we continue to look for those in need and reach out to everyone. no matter how small or big their problem.

Thank you Father for working in our hearts, allowing us to be your hands and feet, for not giving up on us, May we never give up on you. Amen

I don't know about you all, but this young man, this warrior, Nick Vogt, inspires me. I am in awe of the strength of God that I see mirrored in his life each and every day. Read on..................
Nick had a good day today although we were told that last night he gave the med staff a hard time (agitated and depressed). Today he had a lot going on and did a good job "keeping up". The med staff is doing a good job of letting him sleep. When he wakes up the several medical teams storm him to get their work done. They are all doing a great job. Besides the several required medical jobs that had to be done today Nick's day included a few additional activities like: a stroll around the ICU hallways in his powered wheelchair with him doing the driving. (Not one mark on the walls along the way. He did great.) Enjoying music from his own Ipod. (It has made it back from Afghanistan.) Watched some Taylor Swift concert on DVD. Watched some X-Men movie on DVD. But my personal favorite moment of the day (make that the week) was when, while killing some time, he thought he would try to write something. So we grabbed a pen and paper and after much effort he wrote, "I love to be alive". I said," me too" and gave him a kiss on the head. More answered prayers. God is good. Thank you St. Anthony patron Saint of Amputees.

Optimism is a strategy for making a better future. Because unless you believe that the future can be better, you are unlikely to step up and take responsibility for making it so.

Post from Nick's dad, Steve.....Another surgery for Nick today. It went good. They are still trying to find the source of infection that is causing the occasional elevated temperatures. There was some exploratory procedure done today with a small camera into the lungs. Hope to know the results in the next couple days. All in all he continues to heal. He gets frustrated at times because he feels he is not doing anything. This is when we remind him that he must be patient. (Then we turn away and remind ourselves to be patient too.) Its kind of like watching grass grow. When you set and stare at it you don't notice anything happening, but look away for a day or two and there is a noticable change. I think that God is giving Sheila and I a lesson in patience too. Nick slept most of the day due to the mid-day surgery but he was awake and fairly clear this evening for about an hour. We had a nice conversation (us doing the talking and him doing the lip-syncing.((we are still aweful at lip reading))) One question that he asks a lot is, "When can I go home?" When we left him this evening he seemed like he was in a good mood. Prayers continued to be answered. {Steve}

Phil 4:6-7 NKJV) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; {7} and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Post from Nick's mom, Sheila......Not a lot to report today. Nick spent a good portion of the day sleeping and is scheduled for the OR tomorrow. They'll be replacing wound vacs and doing a bronchoscopy to see if they can detect anything inside the lung that might be causing him problems. Please continue to pray for his healing of mind, body and soul as he continues to deal with the life-changing events going on in his life. Words cannot express how much we appreciate each and every prayer that has already been said for Nick. God truly does hear the cries of His people.

For our Wounded Warriors, like Nick, here is some inspiration from a little dog.  Those who know me, know dogs are held in very high esteem by me.

Post from Nick's dad, Steve.....Nick had a better day today then yesterday but is still fighting fever due to infection. They did some testing today which ruled out a few possible infection sources. The fevers today were not as severe as they were yesterday. He shot us a few smiles in between the bouts with high fever temps. He is still mentally dealing with the loss of his legs but his attitude remains positive. Sheila and I are remainig positive too. (Scared at times, but nothing that some prayer doesn`t take care of.) {Steve}

Post from Nick's mom, Sheila.....Day 48: We were greeted with a smile from Nick when we walked into his room today. Seeing those beautiful white teeth was so heart warming. He had about 3 hrs. in the OR today and his remaining open wounds continue to look good. He continues to work on getting off of the vent, but it's very hard work getting his lungs to start performing like they should. One of the doctors explained it to us this way: with the extent of Nick's injuries, he literally feels like he is running a marathon every day due to the fact his body is working so hard to heal itself. This certainly explains why he sleeps so much . . . he is physically exhausted.

Happy New Year all
