So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

They probably need sharpening, as well ;)

Hmmmm. Yet another idea for those that can't follow the rules...polish the snow shovels. I like it! Muahahahaha!

Thankfully, Chris has crossed that hurdle :)
You guys must have your hands full with a growing group of idle sailors!
I'm sure you've dealt with this before.
Looks like maybe snow this weekend up there...good time to polish the shovels :)

There is one major stipulation to the Advancement to E-4. Graduating from 'A' School. The students are not allowed to even submit a chit until they have their Grad Cert in hand.

Thanks...that's good to know! Not even sure Chris knows that ;)
So given the current hold, it's pretty likely that he'll have his crow before he ships out to the fleet.

Yep...here's the official definition...

E-4 to E-6 are considered to be non-commissioned officers (NCOs), and are specifically called petty officers in the Navy. Their insignia is a perched eagle with spread wings(also referred to as a 'crow') atop a rating mark (a rating mark, or 'rate' is a symbol denoting their job category, similar to Army MOS), with chevron(s) denoting their relative rank below.

Most rates have to take an advancement test to move up to E4 but with ETs, FCs and the Nukes it is an automatic advancement to E4 after six months as an E3.

Okay...can you expand on the "crow" for us noobies? :)
Comment by Mary, Proud Mom on November 3, 2010 at 5:31am
Mother does know best :-)

Once Chris gets his E3, there is a six month wait to put on his crow.

I think Chris gets his E3 this week, so that's exciting ;) I'm thinking there's a long time to go for E4 though.

We also firmly adhere and believe in the saying: "If Momma ain't happy, ain't NObody happy."
