@ Chuck - so her DEP ends in two weeks... so she will be shipping out to BC somewhere around the first week of May... Good luck to your SR and I know that if she is in DEP that she will be a fine sailor soon... Take care

@ Michael, Mine does not leave for another 2 weeks.  Same divsion is un likely :(.

@Chuck... daughter is counting down the days until 6/20/12... That's when she reports back to the MEPS facility and then is transported to RTC for BC.. have to see if they end up on the same ship or have PIR at the same time in the future.

Paul... Congragulations!

My daughter has been in DEP for about 10 months and she leaves for Basic in about three weeks.

I would suggest that as you leave this group, you transfer over to the Basic Training Group. I believe you will find it every bit as useful and informative as this group.

When I joined Navy Dads I went ahead and joined all the groups I anticipated would need to follow my daughter's course.  DEP, Basic, PIR, Pensacola, carriers & Airdales.

I leave you all today! My son will be sworn in tomorrow morning and then off to Great Lakes.  I learned a lot from the postings in this group. Good luck to all! See you in the Boot Camp group!

@Craig... no she is not married and probably won't be for some time soon as she will be graduating from high school next may and then goes to Boot Camp in June of next year... She is a high achiever academically and a social butterfly... I don't see her not doing well but not sure about how she would feel about not getting the C-school that she prefers... Although my perspective is one of she will either become tougher and stronger, or we really don't like to think about the alternative.

The only two things that I really think about now are making it to her PIR and that not being a complete cluster on our end and being there for her graduation from A-school. Those are two of many events that here mother and I do not want to miss.

On a different note - what are chances/odds of if she is in the 900 battalion at BC that she can be considered for a change in speciality from MA to Musician... She plays 14 different instruments well and read/writes/plays by ear also... again, any insight is helpful.

V. - I hope you don't say you daughter is married.  The reason I say that is the Navy is really notorious for screwing over the married MA's.  I have a guy on my website, in fact one of my moderators, who is married.  With married sailors, there is a rule that the Navy cannot send them overseas.  However, the needs of the Navy always come 1st, and they needed him in Japan.  Being below E4, he's not allowed to bring his family to Japan.  So he left his wife and child for about 20 months.  20 months pass, and he needed to get a security clearance.  During the security investigation they found that he didn't declare a bankruptcy when he joined 2 years earlier.  The Navy ended up discharging him.  Totally sad situation, being away from his family only to get discharged.  

 

Per the Military Working Dog (MWD) program, does she already have training in this?  The reason I ask is there is a weird rule in the Navy that allows sailors to be advanced if they already have the civilian skills in the rating they are going.  I ended up getting a depper E5 with that rule.
