  • Hello gents,  Name here is Bill, NX9P.  QTH is 25 miles west of RTC Great Lakes.

Jeff welcomed me a few days ago.  Thanks.  To answer your question, I enjoy HF.  Rig is an Elecraft K2/100 with all the bells and whistles installed.  Ant is a S9v43 vertical.

I enjoy building equipment. Current project is a 1kW Solid State HF-6m amp based on the BLF188XR. I've been licensed since 1991, originally KC4WVL.

    Former ABE3(AW), USN(vet), 1980 - 1991

    ET2, USCG(ret), 1991 - 1999

  • Hello again Jared. Did you ever get an HF rig setup? Not aware of any Echolink repeaters around here anymore. Everyone seems to be focusing on D-Star and DMR. However, I am not set up for either of those.

  • Perhaps I should try echolinking a repeater close by K9JAJ again. Last time I tried the audio was horrible. That was in 2013 while I waited for watch on Naval Base Point Loma.

  • Hello William. Welcome to NavyDads! Congratulations to you and your son, Nathan. Gosh it doesn't seem possible but we are coming up on 5.5 years since our son Dylan finished up at Great Lakes. Loved the ceremony there, so rich in tradition. After all his Nuke training, he got assigned to a brand new Virginia Class sub ported in Norfolk. We got to attend the Commissioning Ceremony for that boat back in 2015. Another memorable experience. After a couple of years of underways and sea trials, he and his crew were finally deployed just a few weeks ago. We just heard from him yesterday as a matter of fact. He called us from...Greece! Can't wait to hear the stories he'll have to tell when we hopefully get to see him this summer.

What aspects of Amateur radio do you enjoy?

    73 de K9JAJ

  • NX9P de KC7JQH There are hams that show up here from time to time.  This is a pretty quiet channel.

  • NX9P checking in.  My son, Nathan (KC9OCE), is just finishing up basic and will be going to BESS afterwards, followed by SECF.

  • Hey there, Jared. Thanks for coming back!

My son, Dylan, after completing all his Nuke training, got assigned to a brand new sub (commissioned 08 01 2015) ported in Norfolk, VA. He seems to really like what he's doing going so far as to having already extended his enlistment by 3 years. Really happy he's happy, but we sure do miss him.

I am still around. Albeit I am running in and out on workups. My son is enjoying his shore duty here in San Diego.
  • CQ CQ CQ...de K9JAJ...any NavyDads Hams still around? Been quite awhile since I checked in here! Wondering how everyone's son/daughter is getting along. CQ CQ CQ...de K9JAJ...K

  • Congrats on the upgrade, Jared!

Hey There Fellas. It's been a long time since I've been here. Life has a way of doing that. Any old-timers still around? How are your Sailors fairing these days? Any stories to share? How about any New NavyDad Hams? How are your Recruits doing at RTC? How are YOU doing with your Recruits being at RTC? It can be tough both ways for sure! Feel free to reach out, QSL? 73 de K9JAJ Jeff

Hey there, Fellas! Hope all is well with all of you...AND your sailors! My son Dylan is halfway through Nuke Prototype and doing quite well with it all. I couldn't be prouder of him. He seems genuinely happy with his choices too. So much so that he is planning on applying to the STA-21 program.  Would love to hear more about what you guys are doing with Ham Radio these days. Within the last few months I have added Digital modes to my operating arsenal. It is amazing what can be done with one…

Checking In

Hello Fellow My NavyDads Who Are Hams! K9JAJ checking in. It's been a while I know and we still haven't gotten together on the airwaves. We all have other things going on in our lives, I realize that, but I'm not giving up hope that we can one day put something together! First off, I do hope your sons & daughters are all doing well. My son is working his butt off down in Nuke Power School but he seems to be handling it quite well, both academically and psychologically. I think he wraps it up…
