I am a widower---have only one child--my son is in the Navy. He's in Charleston, S.C. A-school (Air-Craft Carrier) I Am So Proud Of My Son!!! Oh I Live in Ohio--Go Buckeyes...lol

What Were Your Feelings When Your Sailor Joined The Navy:

I was so very proud of him--I always knew he was so smart. This was the guidence that he was needing.I think He is so proud that he is a young man now--and has a good future for him.

    Debby don't worry your son will be just fine in the hands of the Navy. This might be something that you won't want to hear but I've read in many places that he has a 99% chance of not making it with the girlfriend. My son and his did not make it. If they are meant to be it will be. The odds are really stacked against a dating relationship in the first year of the Navy. He will be surrounded by a lot of guys going through the exact same thing as him, like leaving gf's behind and such. They seem to bond together and make the best of their new start. They are accessible to everything that they would be able to get in the civilian world. The Navy has Dr's and Psychiatrists that will put them on medication if needed. As much as us parents hate it, they are in good hands with the Navy and will not depend on us as much. He is getting a great start in life and if him and the girlfriend make it, the Navy will offer them a great start for a new young married couple. Keep me posted on his and your journey through the Navy.

    Welcome to NavyDads Debby! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric is almost half-way through a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat just returned from her seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72).
