Thank you very much, very happy and proud to be here.  When my son told me he wanted to join the Navy I have to admit, I wasn't nervous or scared rather very proud.  My father was in the Navy back in the 60's on the USS Wasp (CV-18) which picked up one of the Gemini space capsules.  My plan was to follow in his footsteps and join the Navy as well but got side tracked with college and then joined the police department so military service was not to be.  When my son decided that military service was going to be his choice, his first plan was to be a Marine.  After some thinking (and a not so positive experience at the recruiting office) he really was impressed with the Navy recruiter.  a few short months later we were waving goodbye at the MEPS station and he is almost done with boot camp.  He is scheduled to graduate on 12, April and his whole family will be there to see him including his former Navy man Grandfather.  We could not be prouder of him and the man he is becoming and his decision to be a Navy man.  Looking forward to the camaraderie on this forum.

This morning our son phoned home to wish his mother a happy birthday. In our brief conversation he mentioned a Tiger Cruise coming up for the Stennis (CVN-74), and I'd sure like to know more about that.

Thanks, Jim,

It's pretty coincidental: After my son told me he re-signed again I was cleaning out some stuff in my bookmarks and re-discovered Navy Dads.

Once I stumbled upon it I remembered what a great support resource it was when he was in boot camp.  Simply scrolling through and reading others who had the same questions I had was a big help.

Now that my son has announced an intention to make the Navy a career, I have taken Navy Dads out of the depths of my bookmarks and placed it front and center on my bookmark bar.

Thanks again for the welcome back.

Thom

Jim, thank you good Sir for your reply, your outreach and your welcome.  It is certainly a new journey and between you, Paul and Navy Dads I feel I am getting caught up to speed.  My boy Christopher and I have had letters flowing regularly while he is in boot camp, graduating on Friday. Thank you, your son and your entire family. God Bless - Bob
