PIR happens!!!

Well we finally got to see our son "Graduate" from Boot Camp on Friday 02/13/09. He was in Group 102, USS Triton. It was a great ceremony, seems to be very long when you are waiting to see your son for the first time in 9 weeks, but the wait is so worth it. A reminder to those who will be attend their childs graduation, be there very early, we arrived at 0715 and the good seats were already taken! The weather was of course cold and it snowed 4 inches Friday night, no problem for us South Alabama folks, we enjoyed it all. Just to let you know your recruit only has a certain amount of liberty time, they must be back in the barracks by 2000 hours, and they may occassionally have a "watch" or other duty that may take a little of their time. We enjoyed every minute with Jeremy and did not try to see the whole area in the brief time we had with him. He called us yesterday to inform us he is in Groton, Cn for Sub School. The good part of this is he can now have his cell phone and we can better stay in touch!!!

MASTER AT ARMS

My son Colin graduated from basic training December 5, 2008. His A school was at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas. He graduates February 20th 2009. He is Master at Arms and will be stationed at Norfolk Virginia. My wife and I are very proud of him as he is himself. He really enjoys being part of the military to serve his country. The Navy has given him a new purpose in life and he has taken full advantage of this oppertunity. We wish him the best of luck in furthering his career in the navy. I wish all parents of their loved ones who have made the decision to serve their country all the best.

If you provide me with your mailing address (DO NOT post in the public area of the site- )CLICK THIS LINK TO POST YOUR ADDRESS I'll print up about 4-5 pages of adhesive labels (10 labels per page) and send them back to you. You have to promise to use them in your care packages on items that other sailors will see and on boxes and packages you send out to our soldiers, sailors, and airmen. After printing a address label for you your address will be deleted unless directed otherwise - it will not be sold or provided to anyone else! I will try this until supplies and finances start to run low...but if this will help get the NavyDads word out I'm willing to do so. note that while this JPEG displays as jagged text, the Publisher files that I print from are better quality

After living in Navy housing or a submarine for the past two years, Paul got a house just outside of Pearl Harbor, HI!He's sharing the house with two shipmates. This way, they actually make money with the housing allowance that they get.So, now my "little boy" has a BMW Z3 and a house in Hawaii (when he's not under the water). Amazing....

Almost PIR!!!!

We leave tomorrow for G.L. for our son's PIR, driving from South Alabama to the G.L. Training Center. With all the recent past bad weather we decided to drive vs. fly: I will not miss this for anything !!! Jeremy is in Div 102 and it seems more like months (many) rather than weeks since we have seen him. I am a 20+ year retiree of the USCG and have been there and done that, but this business of my only son going through Boot Camp with little communication has been rough at best. His letters have gone from really homesick to being excited about thing to come, it seems to get "easier" as they get to the end of training. I think the biggest part of this is that they are becoming familier with and counting on their shipmates and not focused on their family at home. For those of you who are now sending sons and daughters to the Navy, it will seem like forever before you will see them again, just remember they are on a very good journey and it will help them for the rest of their life, You will be proud as I am and the difference in your "child" will be amazing as they have matured more in 9 weeks than with 2-4 years of college.
