If you are planning to go on a Tiger Cruise with your Sailor and you are flying in to meet the ship, buy flight insurance. This is absolutely a requirement when they are returning from deployment.

Articles remember victims torn
Survivors shown and played in bites
Unbidden, memories roam
Twelve years ago …
A bright blue September day
A time made for scheduled underway...
My wife upon her route had gone
Me to work with ball cap on
A sack of laundry at my side
Little things to soothe the ride
I park and hike unto the pier
My ship’s berth,
four at the rear
At the head a 1MC calls,
“Now onboard the Rentz”
Someone is briefing current events.
I look and find EW2.
We stop and discuss what’s new
A plane had been flown into the Trade Center he said.
Another to the Pentagon had flown.
Chaos and havoc had been sown.
A call I made to my father
An update to obtain
I was abreast as he
No further information to be gained.
At the side, then across the brow
To my berthing I went now,
Upon my rack the laundry laid
Till 1930, there it stayed.
For Radio was next upon my list
Work to be done…

Flash traffic coming along with more
From OPS, to CMC, to XO, to CO
We routed traffic on foot
throughout the get go.

“Now set the special sea and anchor detail,” was called.
This underway would not be stalled.
A minor pause while we cleared the harbor
A Task Group to join and start our labor.
The Lincoln, a plane guard was sorely needed.
For the ship was tasking heeded.
Overland where home was farmed
Fighters flew while terribly armed.
The fleet to the sea speedily flew
Lest surprise catch them and take the crew.
When at last the day slowed down.

We all had run,
With hands and feet oh so sore.
We were able to complete our chore.
The next day drills at sea
Just as they were slated to be.
Ten days we at last returned.
More than three days,
We had burned.
Home to our families we’d go.
The world changed.
A fact we’d all know.

And doing my bit.
My son has joined the ranks thus far
He has been a rising star.

My son is in Div 424, his PIR is Nov 8 2013. Does any body have someone with the same date?
My daughter got to boot camp last Wednesday and we just found out yesterday she is on Ship 2 Div 901, anyone else have a child in this group ?
Taylor is at basic for 3+ weeks and we sure do miss her around the house. Having this site to get information is such a help to make us understand what she is going thru.
My son got to boot camp last Weds. Does anyone have someone in ship 12 Div 424 ?
Son was put on restriction Aug 22. On Aug 23 money was starting to be taken from his account, about $2000 worth. Money was also being taken from about 6 other sailors in restriction with him.
My daughter and I caught on to this by checking his online statements; charges from CA, PA, AL, even on base were going on. Not possible for someone to make while in restriction.
Anyway, NCIS got down to it and caught the theif, thank goodness. However, now the bad guy is trying to accuse my son and the other sailors of conspiring. Now he might be charged with grand larceny.
What should be done? Do we/ can we get an outside lawyer if it progresses?
My son's dentist told him his wisdom teeth would be extracted to prevent problems down the road. Is this true? Also, when can we expext his first call? Not the 10 second thing we received the other night.
My son is off to the Navy today. I am very proud of him and the decision he made to join the Navy. I will miss him terribly but I know that this is what he wanted and he is ready to join the great wide world. He is very excited to get going with his Navy career.
New member to NavyDads as of yesterday and I want thank ever one for kind words and support. I have only been a member for 24 hours and have enjoyed the support of many who are going through or have gone through was it feels like to be a Navy dad. We just received our welcome package from Seth yesterday and we were elated just to see his hand writing on a letter. We now know his graduation date, 10.18.13, but am having trouble finding affordable air fair from Atlanta to Chicago or Milwaukee. Any suggestions? Thank you all again and I will be looking forward to reading the posts from all of you.

My wife is the Stepmom but raised our Navy son as much as all of us did. Breaks my heart she is traveling there but cannot go in. Please help! If anyone has as extra I would gladly pay for it!!!!!
Just received the "I'm a Sailor" call from my son. In our conversation he mentioned he was given to "Challenge Coins". Being naive, I was wondering if anyone could explain what these coins are and how they age given out?

Well to start she has been in for 2 years now has 5 tats But, I dont care.she has grown up to so much.Has lost wieght,doing 5 k runs and shipboard life ( General Quarters Drills and so on).so proud of her.Recieved her crow and becoming a Sheel Back,she said that was fun and under age ocasional drinks.
Now this is the way I feel about Armed Forces and drinking,If they can PROTECT this Country with their Life then I will pour them their first drink and drink with them too.ANYTIME.Proud DAD.
