To better accommodate traffic flow on the day after graduation when families and friends pick up Sailors for liberty, a new traffic plan will direct guests to the parking garage adjacent to the USS Yorktown visitors center, the same place you would park on graduation morning.
Gate 8 (same entrance used on graduation morning) will be open from 6 to 10 a.m. All guests will park in the garage to wait for their Sailors who will meet them there. When dropping off Sailors later in the day, guests will use Gate 6 at Illinois Street and Buckley Road and drop the Sailors off in the chapel parking lot.
Gate 8 will NOT be open to vehicular traffic when returning your Sailors from liberty. Sailors may also be dropped off at Gate 8 to access base on foot via the automated turnstile using their CAC (Common Access Card).
PLEASE NOTE: **ONLY GUESTS WITH GRADUATION TICKETS MAY ACCESS THE BASE WHEN PICKING UP AND DROPPING OFF SAILORS TO AND FROM LIBERTY! PLEASE RETAIN YOUR TICKETS FROM GRADUATION.** GUESTS INTENDING TO PICK UP A SAILOR FOR LIBERTY WITHOUT A TICKET WILL BE TURNED AND MAY HAVE TO PICK UP THEIR SAILOR AT GATE 8.
For those family and friends unable to attend RTC graduation, it will be streamed live over the internet at 0845 (CST) on the day of graduation. Please follow the link below and join us in honoring the service of these young men and women.

Joseph- you're making us blush!! Thanks for those very kind words- it means we are providing the help great Navy parents like you want!
Hi Larry - it will be memorable. Our Sailor is # 2 of 4 sons, has always worked hard, and, i think finally, understood the meaning of Hard Work when he telephoned home....."Dad, I am a Sailor." They do all the work.....we sit back and enjoy..... Be supportive, be patient, be comforting, and, be proud. Congratulations!! (it is ok to have a handkerchief - lol) Best wishes to you and your family. It is a great journey. ~ Pat Doherty
I have watched a couple of these PIR ceremonies, and I have become an emotional wreck each time! My son doesn't even ship to boot until next March! I hope I am better prepared when we actually attend his graduation!!
We were a Wednesday also. We were expecting a call in the evening because that's when we got the only other call "I'm still alive" but it was in the morning because BS21 can be night or day. His was the night before, so when he called he was up for more than 24 hours. The call restrictions seemed to be less because he tried his mom and couldn't get her, got a hold of me at work, then his brother and then back to his mom. Then back to duty. So that may be some hope for you. Be prepared for the call anytime.
And realize that only two divisions go thru BS21 at a time. For a TG like those graduating today (13 divisions) that means BS21 needs to spread out over a number of days to get all the divisions within a TG through.
If I recall correctly, our "I am a Sailor!" phone call arrived on Wednesday of PIR week.
correct- you are ahead of yourself. BS21 can traditionally start the Sat before PIR up to and including the Thursday prior to PIR. ALWAYS assume everything is on track unless you hear otherwise.
Our recruit is scheduled to graduate August 19th. I expected that she would be completing Battle Stations and that we would hear from her about ten days prior to graduation. Am I getting ahead of myself? When do families usually receive that final confirmation phonecall?
Also, at Navyoutfitters.com You can get Bootcamp graduation gifts like challenge coins which you can have engraved.
