ASVAB score

Hello everyone and thank you for making me feel welcome.  My son, Cory, has not yet joined the Navy.  He will be taking the ASVAB either tomorrow or sometime next week.  He is going for Master of Arms.  Does anyone have any advise for us before he takes the ASVAB.  He doesn't test well (even in school) and the first test he took he scored a 45.  He was told that he needs to score at least a 50 to enlist in the Navy.

He is now waiting on his Fleet orders as we all hope he is placed in San Diego based on a medical request for his mom.I am so proud of his commitment to serve and his drive as he has made his own way to finish RTC and A School. I am truly in awe of my son.God bless you Skippy, and God bless and keep all of our sailors and soldiers!

69 Naval commanders fired since 2010

Recently there have been a number of submarine commanders fired while their boats have been refitted at the Portsmouth NH Naval Ship yard.  That apparently has prompted the attached article which suggests that times have changed for Navy COs.  Being a naval commander was never an easy job but according to this article in today's world it has gotten even harder.  Any thought about this?   http://www.seacoastonline.com/articles/20130203-NEWS-302030345

My name is Wayne DeBerry, I’m the Services Director for Technology Advancement Group. I'm a NAVY VET who takes pride in transtioning NAVY Vetrans. I am currently seeking Engineering Technicians at Fort Meade, MD for NSA. The NAVY rate that match up best is CTN. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss opportunity with anyone. These positions offer a competitive salary and generous benefits package.  This position does require a TS Full Scope Polygraph security clearance, which we can process for qualified Vets.

New SR and PIR?

Posted in status last night and didnt give me the characters for everything I needed.  Still new and figuring the site out.  Anyway, son leaves from Nashville, TN on 04Feb2013.  Anyone else leaving this week?  From what I read we can count 8 Fridays from then for PIR.  Is this fairly accurate?  Have I mentioned how proud we are?  Oldest graduates college in May and youngest from Navy boot and A School.  Great year.

Feb 8th graduation.

I just got the second call (the "I'm OK" call) from my son in Ship 14 DIV 093. We only had 6 minutes, but it was great to hear from him! He mentioned that he may ship out to A school right after graduation and our time may be limited before he leaves. Anyone else hear that? I was under the impression that he would have at least a day with us to hang out within 50 miles of the base.

Another journey begins

Well my son Nick shipped out yesterday to bootcamp at Great Lakes Ill. Bitter sweet, now I know how my mom felt when I left back in '87. He's going to do great, I know. He is a lot better prepared than I was. So very proud! I know the Navy is a little strong today! I pray the Lord to give him strength, courage and confidence. Love you son, your always in my heart.

My girlfriend's bunk mate was caught with liquor locked up in her closet during a health and wellness inspection received a 341 and will have to report in front of the Master Chief on Monday. We were all going to go out on leave together for the holidays. Both of the girls are old enough to drink, and weren't intoxicated. Any idea what may happen? I really am hoping that they don't get stuck on base.

One Week Down

I have never written a blog before, but here goes. First thing I need to do is say thanks for the warm welcome. It was one week ago today at this same time of day, that i dropped her at the recruiting station. After a kiss and a hug she walked away with a smile on here face and a tear on mine. After she checked in at the hotel I picked her up for (what we hope to be) a final civilian meal with the family(atleast for a long time). I made it the next morning to MEPS in time for the swearing-in and had some time with her. As we sat chatting about random things, I couldn't help thinking about watching her grow up with me. Soon they were called to go watch the video. Right before she left i asked "are you scared?". She hugged me and said " No, dad I'm ready". I sent her phone with her and I'm glad I did. She called me from the airport before boarding and again when she landed. Unfortunately I missed the call when she arrived at the RTC. No kid in a box yet or form letter either. She is "Daddy's little girl" and that makes it nerve-racking for me. When her brothers joined the service it was easy for me but mom was a wreck. Anthony went Army, Patrick and Cody went Marines and now my baby-girl has gone navy. I know she will be fine but I feel helpless and cant wait to get word from her. She went in on 12/3/12 so the next 7-8 weeks are going to crawl slowly by. This makes the past 18 years seem like they have flown by. I am so very thankful for all the information on this site. NavyDads has made this so much easier already.

     Sincerely,

                    One Proud Daddy

Div 803 PIR date 21 Dec Leave after grad.

After earlier letter stating he will be getting leave after graduation, I received another letter today casting some doubt on leave. Hope not, already purchased round trip airfare for him to come home. To soon to panic yet. Graduation still 4 weeks away. On positive note he said he made section leader due to excellent inspection reports. He sounds very positive and dedicated.
